We'll start our trip in Hanoi, with it's beautiful French colonial architecture and some of the best street food in Asia. Then we'll make our way to Ha Long Bay for an overnight cruise in one of the world's most picturesque places. Next stop is Hue, with it's famous Imperial City and Imperial tombs scattered throughout the city. Last stop is the beautiful beach town of Hoi An, with it's cultural old town center. We'll experience all Vietnam has to offer, amazing food, gardens, ancient temples, historical architecture and tons of natural beauty. There is so much to see and do, and as usual, you'll have plenty of free time if you want to explore on your own. There are some awesome side trips available too... Ninh Binh temples, the ancient Cham temples, and bicycle ride to an interactive vegetable garden(!) This is a trip you don't want to miss.

The cultural capital of Vietnam. Conservative and shunning visitors until as recently as the 1990's, Hanoi is a welcoming, lively, vibrant city with layers of history and architecture revealing it's French and Chinese colonial past. Our four star hotel is right in the center of the action, and we'll have 4 days and nights to explore this gem of Northern Vietnam. Ha Long Bay You've seen the pictures. The UNESCO world heritage site of some 1,600 islands and islets, forming a spectacular seascape of limestone pillars. We'll sail around this breathtakingly beautiful bay and spend the night onboard. Lunch, Dinner and Brunch will be served. Hue the former Imperial capital. Hue is home to the Imperial Citadel, a sprawling complex of buildings and temples where the royal family resided. The citadel is surrounded by today's modern city of Hue, and visitors can only access it by crossing bridges over the moat. Our beautiful home for two nights is just across the river. Hoi An Another UNESCO World Heritage Site and where you'll find the city's well-preserved complex of heritage houses and pagodas. Our luxurious four star home for four nights is a five minute walk from the atmospheric Ancient Town, where most of the city's top attractions are located, and where and the 21st-century curses of traffic and pollution are almost entirely absent. 2024 Northern Vietnam Itinerary
Day 1 - Saturday November 2, 2024 We will head to the airport Saturday evening. Our EVA Air flight BR031 leaves 1:05 AM on Sunday. EVA Airlines is one of the few truly 5 star carriers in the world. Day 2 - Sunday November 3, 2024 Our overnight flight BR031 departs JFK International Airport at 1:05 AM and arrives in Taipei 6:20 Monday morning, November 4 Day 3 - Monday November 4, 2024 Welcome to Vietnam. After a brief layover in Taiwan our connecting flight BR397 departs at 9:15 and arrives in Hanoi at 11:35 this morning. Upon arrival our private coach will take us to our home in Hanoi for the next four nights.. Rest of your day is at leisure to enjoy your hotel and new surroundings. Overnight in the beautiful four star Le Jardin Hotel Haute Couture in the heart of Hanoi. Day 4 - Tuesday November 5, 2024 Following breakfast at our hotel this morning we’ll embark on a journey through the history of Hanoi, starting the mausoleum of the historic figure and father of modern Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh. Then it’s on his temporary residence from 1954 to 1969. In the same complex we will see the One Pillar Pagoda, founded by King Ly Thai To in 1049 which has become an important symbol for the people of Hanoi. Our next stop is the Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first university constructed in 1070, their gardens and well-preserved architecture offers a relaxing glimpse into Vietnam’s past. In the afternoon we'll take a walking orientation tour of Hanoi’s Old Quarter, also known as the ‘36 streets’. This bustling area of narrow streets and alleys is home to literally thousands of small businesses and shopkeepers. It's a great place to explore with plenty of photo opportunities all around you. Overnight in the Le Jardin Hotel Haute Couture Hotel. Day 5 - Wednesday November 6, 2024 Today is a free day at leisure. Optional Tour: Ninh Binh (Hoa Lu – Tam Coc) After breakfast we'll embark on a scenic two hour drive through picturesque countryside to the historic capital of Vietnam, Hoa Lu and the famous ancient temples of Le and the Dinh Dynasties built in the 10th century. The architecture here is unique and well preserved. Next we'll take a ride on a traditional sampan boat to visit Tam Coc, with Halong bay type views of majestic limestone cliffs, mysterious caves, peaceful streams, serene rice paddies and gorgeous fields of green. Afterwards we'll head back to Hanoi where we'll have the rest of the day free. Overnight in the Le Jardin Hotel Haute Couture Hotel. Day 6 - Thursday November 7, 2024 After breakfast at our hotel, we'll board our private coach for a pleasant overland journey to Ha Long Bay via the new highway. Upon arrival at Ha Long we'll board our vessel and begin our overnight cruise of Ha Long Bay, on of the most beautiful bays on the planet. Relax and enjoy. A Vietnamese style seafood lunch and dinner will be served on board. Day 7 - Friday November 8, 2024 The morning starts with an early Tai Chi exercise on the upper deck of the junk, followed by a light breakfast. The cruise continues as we take in the beautiful sights of the bay. After brunch on board, we'll return to Hanoi. Rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight in the Le Jardin Hotel Haute Couture Hotel. Day 8 - Saturday November 9, 2024 After breakfast at our hotel we'll check out at noon and transfer to Noi Bai airport for a very short flight to Hue, and a short 20 minute drive to our home for the next two nights. After checking in at our highly rated and well situated hotel just across the river from the Imperial City, we'll have the rest of the day to relax and explore. Overnight in the Eldora Hotel. Day 9 - Sunday November 10, 2024 After breakfast well begin our tour of Hue with the Thien Mu Pagoda, constructed in 1601 with it's iconic 75 foot tall tower. Then, visit the Imperial Citadel where the Nguyen Dynasty ruled between 1802 and 1945. The Imperial Enclosure or Imperial City is a citadel-within-a-citadel, housing the emperor’s residence, temples and palaces, and the main buildings of state, within 6m-high, 2.5km-long walls. Then we will visit Khai Dinh King’s mausoleum which is traditional Vietnamese in design with a European touch making it unique from the other tombs in Hue. The rest of the day is yours to explore. Overnight in the Eldora Hotel. Day 10 - Monday November 11, 2024 Today we'll check out after breakfast and head on an easy journey to Hoi An with a stop at Lang Co Bay for a rest at one of the most beautiful beaches in Vietnam. Next stop is Marble Mountain in Danang where we'll take an elevator to the top of mountain and visit some amazing caves and pagodas with beautiful views. At the foot of the mountains there's a 300 year old village of marble sculptors and craftsmen where we can browse the wares and do a little shopping. Upon arrival Hoi An we'll check-in to our home for the next four nights, the luxurious Central Boutique Hotel & Spa located just a 5 minute walk for the old town. The rest of the day is free to wander and explore. Day 11 - Tuesday November 12, 2024 Today is a free day at leisure. Optional Tour: My Son Holy Land After breakfast at the hotel, we'll visit the ancient ruins of the Cham kingdom that flourished in Central Vietnam in the 4th and 5th centuries. Only about 20 of the original 70 structures survive, but the intimate nature of the site, surrounded by gurgling streams, is still enthralling. Back in historic Hoi An. We'll take a walk along the ancient streets to discover the iconic covered Japanese Bridge, the Fukian Assembly Hall, a gorgeous 19th-century temple dedicated to the goddess Tian Hou, the various local handicraft workshops, the Museum of History and Culture, and more. We'll have plenty of free time for shopping and exploring for the rest of the afternoon before heading back to our hotel. Overnight in the Hoi An Central Boutique Hotel & Spa. Day 12 - Wednesday November 13, 2024 Today is a free day at leisure to explore the sights and sounds of Hoi An. Optional Tour: Tra Que Vegetable Village A Vegetable Village? Really? It's actually a really cool experience. We'll take a scenic 30 minute bicycle ride (yes, on bicycles) to the edge of Hoi An to the charming little village of Tra Que, named after the sweet-scented vegetables that spice up the everyday meals of the Pho Hoi people. We'll take a short stroll around the vegetable garden and learn the history of the village. Then it’s time to get to work as you join the gardening activities by preparing the land, fertilizing it with seaweed, raking the ground, sowing, watering and picking vegetables. After a relaxing foot soak you can help to prepare lunch with a local family, where we'll learn how to prepare traditional Hoi An dishes like Cao Lau and Quang noodles, ‘Tam Huu’ spring rolls, and a local pancake with meat (Banh xeo). Then we'll pedal back to our hotel in the afternoon. Overnight in the Hoi An Central Boutique Hotel & Spa. Day 13 - Thursday November 14, 2024 Breakfast served at hotel. It's been an interesting and wonderful trip. Today is a free day to relax and soak up all that Hoi An has to offer before our journey home tomorrow. Overnight in the Hoi An Central Boutique Hotel & Spa. Day 14 - Friday November 15, 2024 After a leisurely breakfast we'll take a short ride to the airport in Da Nang for our flight home. Our EVA flight BR384 departs at 1:00 pm and arrives in Taipei at 4:45 pm. Our connecting flight BR032 departs Taiwan at 7:20 PM and arrives in JFK at 9:05 PM. We should be back in Easton by midnight.
