A perfect escape from old man winter. A small group adventure. Discover the magic of Colombia. Pristine beaches, laid back bohemian beach towns and the historic Caribbean city of Santa Marta. Bogota is less than 5 hours by air, and another quick hop takes you to the Caribbean beaches on the north cost of South America. We'll make our home base in Taganga, a Caribbean beach town with a bohemian backpacker vibe, and is still a working fishing port. Historic Santa Marta is just a short taxi ride away, and there is lots to do. Stunning Tayrona National Park is an easy day trip away. $1299 includes 7 nights in the beach town of Taganga, Santa Marta, all transfers in Colombia, breakfast daily, a pre-departure meeting before we go, and the services of our Spanish speaking native Colombian guide, Manuel Fresneda of Terra Cafe in Easton, who will be our guide for the entire adventure. Larry will not be leading this trip. International airfare on Avianca, Colombia's national airline, is not included. Everyone will purchase their own airfare, but the group will all travel together on the same flights as per the itinerary below. We can assist with ticket purchases if you prefer. The current published airfare price is $553 including departure taxes. Our accommodations will be basic, but clean and modern, with air conditioning, private bathrooms, and a private courtyard, just a 5 minute walk to the beach, shopping, and tons of restaurants. We will occupy the entire property during our stay. 18 People maximum. Price is per person based on double occupancy. Single occupancy may not be available. Things to know • The average annual year-round temperature in Santa Marta is a balmy 90 degrees. January is one of the sunniest months of the year with the least amount of rainfall. • The US dollar is super strong against the Colombian peso right now. Local food and handicrafts will be very affordable. • January is the perfect time to visit right before the high season. We'll have more space at the local restaurants and the weather is perfect. • Colombia is the next big thing... business is booming and tourism is on the rise. Things to do • Visit Santa Marta's historic city center for some fabulous food and a night on the town! • Tour the local coffee farm and brewery in Minca, in the Sierra Nevada mountains overlooking the Caribbean. • The seafood doesn't get any fresher. Watch the fisherman sell their catch right on the beach and then follow the chefs back to the restaurants. You can even pick out your own fish! • Go fishing with a local. • Visit Tayrona National Park, a pristine beachfront paradise just a few miles from our home base. Saturday Jan 21, 2023. Day 1 Avianca flight AV245 departs JFK 11:20PM and arrives in Bogota at 5:10 AM. Sunday Jan 22, 2023. Day 2 After a short layover our Avianca flight AV8484 departs Bogota 6:45AM and arrives in Santa Marta at 8:17 AM. Transferfrom airport to our hotel and we should be on the the beach sipping cocktails by lunchtime!! This will be our home for the next 6 nights. Monday Jan 23, 2023. Day 3 Breakfast served at hotel.
