We'll visit Tarangire National Park, the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti Plains with our own personal English speaking guides who know the country and where to find the game. We'll be looking for elephants, rhinos, lions, wildebeest, giraffes, birds and more. $6303 includes flights to Arusha, Tanzania and back from JFK airport, all air taxes and fuel surcharges, all transfers between airports and accommodations in Tanzania, private transportation throughout the trip, all tours, meals and entrance fees on the itinerary below, and a pre departure meeting and orientation before we go. Prices are based on double occupancy. There is a single supplement fee of $895 for solo travelers. Airport departure taxed and fuel surcharges are included but subject to change until time of booking, Transportation to and from JFK airport will be provided at an additional cost. Visa not included. Detailed Itinerary Wednesday Feb 9. Day 1: Departure Board our Kenya Airways flight KQ003 departing JFK at 12:45 in the afternoon and head to Africa! After a brief layover in Nairobi we'll arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport in Tanzania on Thursday at 2:30 in the afternoon. Thursday Feb 10. Day 2: Arusha, Tanzania Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) at 2:30 in the afternoon where you will be met and assisted through immigration and customs. Your guides will drive you to Arusha town for overnight stay at Mt. Meru Game Lodge. Overnight: Mt. Meru Game Lodge. Friday Feb 11. Day 3: Arusha – Tarangire National Park After breakfast and morning briefing, drive 90 miles southwest Tarangire National Park, which is the quintessence of Old Africa. This unique park has a magical, prehistoric atmosphere, and is perhaps Tanzania’s best-kept secret. It is the epitome of the safari experience, with its sweeping savannah lands, lush swamps andclusters of ancient baobab trees, covering 1,030 square miles. It’s home to an excellent, dense population of wildlife – over 95 mammal species and 500 bird species, concentrated around the permanent waters of the Tarangire River during the heat of the day. It is arguably the best park in Africa for elephants, with a population of over 3,000. The park is also home to herds of buffalo, wildebeest, giraffe, impala and zebra; hippo, pythons and hyena; and predators such as cheetah, lion and leopard. Day 4: Tarangire National Park Morning and afternoon game drives exploring the park with its vast Baobab Trees, swamps, reptiles and herds of elephants. Picnic lunches while on game drives in the park Enjoy afternoon game drives at Tarangire National Park before driving to the lodge for dinner and overnight Overnight: Maromboi Tented Camp Sunday Feb 13. Day 5: Serengeti National Park (Ndutu Area) After breakfast, drive to Serengeti National Park with packed lunches with game drives en-route With 14,500 sq. kms, the Serengeti Plain is undoubtedly the most famous wildlife sanctuary in the world, unequalled for its natural beauty and the greatest concentration of plains game anywhere. Serengeti is renowned for its black-maned lion and other predators including wild dog, spotted hyena, jackal, cheetah and leopard. The wealth of birdlife is of a special interest including colourful rollers, bee-eaters, kingfishers and sunbirds and a large number of birds of prey. Arrive at our private camp for dinner and overnight. Overnight: Private tented camp Monday & Tuesday, Feb 14 & 15. Day 6 & 7: Serengeti National Park (Ndutu Area) Enjoy two days witnessing the great migration while in Ndutu Area, with Lake Ndutu being the prime viewing spot in the Ndutu region where enormous herds congregate between December and April to graze and calve. The Calving season is particularly dramatic, a million wildebeest give birth to 8000 babies every day, and as these newborns take their first steps, they’re targeted by lions, leopard, hyenas. All meals and overnight at camp. Overnight: Private tented camp Wednesday Feb 16. Day 8: Ngorongoro Conservation Area After Breakfast, drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority with packed lunch. Visit Oldupai Gorge Museum, which is one of the most important pre-historical sites in the world, and has been instrumental in understanding the early existence of humans. After the visit, continue drive to the lodge for dinner and overnight. Overnight: Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge Thursday Feb 17. Day 9: Ngorongoro Conservation Area After breakfast, drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area for a full day crater day tour. A world heritage site, the crater is one of the largest volcanic craters in the world, with unique biosphere harboring grasslands, swamps, forests, and a wide variety of birdlife, all enclosed within its towering walls. You are guaranteed to see a large concentration of game, including herds of zebras and wildebeests, buffalos and the black rhino. Late afternoon drive back to the lodge for afternoon rest. Dinner and overnight at the lodge. Overnight: Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge Friday Feb 18. Day 10: Arusha After breakfast, drive to the African Galleria Center for a shopping stop and later drive to Karatu Town to immerse in the culture of one of the local tribes in Tanzania. Interactively experience their way of life, enjoy a well-prepared African cuisine lunch and participate in their various unique cultural activities through a visit to the village. Late Afternoon, drive back to Arusha, dinner and overnight at the lodge Overnight: Mount Meru Game Lodge Saturday Feb 19. Day 11: Arusha Morning at leisure at the lodge. Later in the morning, drive to town for a tour of Arusha and visit to the Shanga Store at the Arusha Coffee Lodge. Shanga, meaning “bead” in Swahili, is a heart-warming project dedicated to supporting and empowering community members with disabilities. Abiding by a commitment to environmentally sustainable business practices, Shanga comprises of a bustling workshop that creates works of art often from recycled goods, and a trendy boutique. Lunch at the coffee lodge, and later drive to the airport for our 3:30 pm Kenya Airways flight KQ427 to Nairobi. Dayroom: Mount Meru Game Lodge Sunday Feb 20. Day 12: Land at JFK and back home. After a brief layover in Nairobi We arrive at JFK at 6:35 AM on Kenya Airways flight KQ002. Optional Zanzibar extension.

From $1389 including Air Saturday Feb 19 Day 11: Arusha to Zanzibar Our 9:50 morning flight will land in Zanzibar at 11:10 am and we'll head to the glorious Nungwi Dreams beach resort located on the sugar white beaches on the north end of the island. Overnight in the Nungwi Dreams Beach Resort. Sunday Feb 20 Day 12: Zanzibar Breakfast provided at the resort. The rest of the day is free at your leisure to swim, snorkel, lay in the sun or walk into the little town of Nungwi Beach. Overnight at Nungwi Dreams Beach resort Monday Feb 21 Day 13: Zanzibar After a leisurely breakfast we'll head to historic Stone Town. After checking into our beachfront hotel we can spend the afternoon wandering the cobblestone alleyways of Stone town, eating, drinking, seeing the historic sights or just relaxing a the pool. Overnight in the Zanzibar Serena Hotel. Tuesday Feb 22 Day 14: Homeward bound After breakfast at the resort we'll have some time to wander around Stone Sown a bit more before our 7:30 PM departure back to the mainland for our connection home. Wednesday Feb 23 Day 15: Home Our Kenya Airways flight departs from Nairobi Tuesday Feb 22 11:30 PM and arrives in JFK on Wednesday Feb 23 at 6:35 AM. |
